Battery Digital Product Passports, built for EU compliance
Kunisolutions is building the platform to issue per-item Digital Product Passports for EU-bound batteries ahead of the Batteries Regulation (EU) 2023/1542 passport obligation, effective 18 February 2027. Tiered, role-based access; eIDAS-qualified sealing; EU-resident infrastructure.
Why the EU Battery Passport matters
Regulation (EU) 2023/1542 introduces mandatory Digital Product Passports for industrial, electric vehicle, LMT, and SLI batteries placed on the EU market. The passport must expose carbon footprint declarations, material composition, due diligence information, and end-of-life instructions to a defined set of stakeholders — each with different access rights to the same underlying record.
Non-EU manufacturers exporting batteries into the EU will generally need an EU Authorised Representative to manage regulatory obligations, including DPP issuance and upkeep. Kunisolutions is preparing to act in that capacity.

Frequently asked questions
What is a Digital Product Passport (DPP)?
A Digital Product Passport is a structured, machine-readable dataset attached to a physical product — in this case a battery — that records its materials, origin, carbon footprint, compliance status, and lifecycle history. Under EU Regulation 2023/1542, batteries placed on the EU market must carry a DPP accessible via a QR code or similar data carrier from 18 February 2027.
Who needs a battery Digital Product Passport?
Any manufacturer, importer, or economic operator placing industrial, EV, LMT, or SLI batteries above the regulatory threshold on the EU market needs a compliant DPP. Non-EU manufacturers typically need an EU Authorised Representative to manage compliance obligations.
What does Kunisolutions provide for DPP compliance?
Kunisolutions is building a per-item DPP issuance platform with tiered, role-based access (consumer, recycler, insurer, notified body, authority, and more), eIDAS-qualified sealing, and hosting on EU-resident infrastructure with GDPR-aligned data minimisation. We are preparing to act as EU Authorised Representative for battery manufacturers targeting the EU market.
What is eIDAS sealing and why does it matter for a DPP?
eIDAS is the EU regulation governing electronic identification and trust services. A qualified electronic seal under eIDAS cryptographically proves that a Digital Product Passport record originated from the stated economic operator and has not been tampered with — a requirement for tamper-evident regulatory records under the Batteries Regulation.
When does the EU battery passport requirement take effect?
Regulation (EU) 2023/1542 sets 18 February 2027 as the date from which batteries covered by the regulation must be accompanied by a Digital Product Passport before being placed on the EU market. Technical implementing rules are still being finalised by the European Commission.
